Its Spring again, yipee.............but........

Lemon Juice Diet and Detox.
Much has been reported about the benefits of lemon, it is a wonderful, bright citrus fruit, used reverently in detoxification and healthy eating programmes, with absolute justification as its efficacy is proven.
The benefits of lemon and the lemon detox diet have been widely acknowledged since the naturopath, Stanley Burroughs, developed the "Master Cleanser" lemon diet in 1941. The lemon diet has been revised, refined and updated in recent times notably a Swiss doctor, Dr K A Beyer and Dr Michel Odent, a well known and respected French obstetrician have advocated its use. Hollywood celebrities have used the diet to great acclaim......Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mischa Barton and Jennifer Aniston all singing its cleansing praises....lemons really do rock !
Here in Greece.... lemons are an integral part of eating and cooking - lemons and lemon juice is used everywhere ! The benefits of this, aside from tasting exceptionally good when squeezed onto meat, salads , fish or into water, is that it is incredibly good for you.
Lemons contain vitamins C, B and E, also beta carotene which is converted by the body into vitamin A. Minerals contained are magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, copper, iron, manganese, selenium and zinc, in fact a very large percentage of your daily nutritional requirements in just one or two of these yellow citrus fruits.
The antioxidants that are contained in abundance in these fruits enable the body to protect itself from free radicals - these antioxidants are extremely efficient in regard to enabling the liver to detoxify and expel harmful pollutants via a process called Glucuronidation which uses limonene, a component of lemon oil.
Other effects of these antioxidants are the strengthening of capillaries, reducing hypertension and cholesterol, reducing inflammation and reducing the effects of degenerative dieseases eg; age related macular degeneration, memory loss and prematurely ageing skin.
Here, citric acid, which is a main component of lemon juice, deserves a mention as this is one of the alpha hydroxy acids or AHA's - which you will find listed in many beauty products. Skin products in particular use alpha hydroxy acids due to their exfoliating and moisturising properties, alpha hydroxy acids encourage skin exfoliation - the removal of dead skin cells - and water retention in the cells in the skin but at the same time they enable the body to remove any excess water in the tissues encouraging better circulation, resulting in smooth, plump, radiant looking skin.
The fibre in the pith, peel and pulp of the lemon contains pectin and cellulose. Pectin in the digestive tract forms a gel when dissolved, which releases butyric acid - which enhances the absorption of calcium and minerals from the digestive tract, it reduces the absorption of LDL cholesterol, it removes toxic metals such as aluminium from the bowel, it also reduces the effects of irritable bowel syndrome and other inflammatory bowel diseases. The cellulose strengthens the cell walls and absorbs water, aiding the digestive process by ensuring stools move along the tract with ease.
So how to get your body feeling gorgeous from the inside out .........

A few simple rules !!!

Only eat what is on the list ............
EVERYTHING ELSE IS OFF LIMITS FOR 336 HOURS !
1/2 a Lemon's juice and zest, with warm water, ginger or cinnamon , three times a day.
6 - 8 glasses of water a day.
Herbal teas, water and smoothies to drink.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner to be eaten.
A mid-morning snack and mid-afternoon snack to be eaten.
Only olive oil to be used for cooking, any seasonings, herbs and spices are allowed.
Lemon juice / balsamic vinegar / olive oil to be used for dressings.
Some form of exercise to be taken daily which adds up to 1/2 hour of active movement ....... 15 minutes x 2, or 10 minutes x 3 or 5 minutes x 6 ........ just get moving and do what you enjoy !
BREAKFAST
- choose one option.
2 eggs - cook anyway you like.
Fruit smoothie- made with fruit of your choice.
Fruit of your choice and Greek yoghurt (full fat).
LUNCH
- A cup of any COOKED rice with one option below served with any salad or vegetables that you choose - except potatoes.
1oz Feta cheese
1 chicken breast - cooked anyway you like
1 piece of any fish or portion of shellfish - cooked anyway you like
Any selection of beans or pulses - cooked anyway you like
Tofu.
To follow any fruit you choose.
DINNER
-choose any vegetable soup with one option served with any salad or vegetables that you choose - except potatoes which are limited to one small one.
Any vegetable soup with
1oz Feta cheese
1 chicken breast - cooked anyway you like
1 piece of any fish or portion of shellfish - cooked anyway you like
Any selection of beans or pulses - cooked anyway you like
Tofu.
To follow any fruit you choose.
MID-MORNING SNACK AND MID-AFTERNOON SNACK
- choose one
A small handful of any seeds and nuts ........... that's not not many no more than 25 nuts !
Vegetable sticks - any with 2 tablespoons hummus, bean, aubergine dip - or any dip you make using only vegetables or beans, peas or pulses and olive oil.
