Handmade Soap Recipes- Lavender and Basil



A wonderful soap for skin that needs nourishment, antibacterial and antiseptic, great for skin with Eczema or Psoriasis.



How to make homemade soap - Basil and Lavender Soap.



Soap making Ingredients, all weighed out on a scale.

20 oz of Olive oil

2.5 oz Lye

7.5 oz Water

8 drops Basil Essential Oil

12 drops Lavender Essential Oil

2 tbs Dried Basil and Dried Lavender flowers - crushed.

Equipment that you need.

Steel pan

Pyrex jug

Candy thermometer

2 wooden spoons

Stick blender

Eye protection and rubber gloves (health and safety !)

Greaseproof paper

Plastic cartons or silicone cake moulds.



Soapmaking Instructions for Basil and Lavender Soap.



1. Put water into jug, place jug in sink.

2.Open window, don eye-protection and rubber gloves.

3.Gently sprinkle lye into the water, mix gently,with wooden spoon, it will get very hot.

Take care not to splash it about.

4.Leave the jug in the sink.

5.Heat the oil in the steel pan, over a gentle heat until it reaches 110F, use the candy thermometer.

6.Test lye temperature when it is also 110F, gently add into the heated oil.

7.Mix lye and oil together using the stick blender.....carefully !

8.When the mixture resembles creamy custard and is at the point where a drizzle of the mix will lay briefly on top of the mixture, "trace" has been reached.

9.Add the essential oils and the dried herbs into the mixture, give the mix one last gentle zizz with the stick blender to fully incorporate the final ingredients.

Thats It !

Now pour the mixture into your chosen mold.

Smooth down mix.

Cover with greaseproof paper.

Wrap blankets over the top and walk away for 2 days.

After 48 hours, take out of the moulds.

Place onto greaseproof paper and leave for 5 weeks to "cure".

After 5 weeks the soap is ready.
